Main Task Production - New Production Name (The very final one!)

Following the final draft of the production name we noticed a spelling mistake in the name of the production company, as we spell 'Incorporation' with 'Incorperation'.
So we have edited this and changed it, we will have to make the 'bad TV' effect again.

Main Task Production - Second draft of Production

Here is our second draft of our production with a few more tweaks in the editing at the end, we will now focus on music and sound and then polish it off :)

Main Task Planning - Age and Audience classifications

Hello again,
Here is mine and Georgia's age classification of our media film, we reviewed the storyboard, first film and the ideas to get an idea of what we would include in the opening.

Enjoy!    :)

Friday 5 December 2014

Main Task Production - First draft of Production!

Here is the first ever draft of the opening sequence of our thriller film.
We still have loads to do to our film opening with the editing and adding the sound and music we desire :)

Enjoy!

Main Task Planning - Product name and connotaions

Hey, here is our list of possible fonts and the connotations we get from each with audience feedback and our own view on the fonts and the one we will pick for our production!

Product Name: The New Man

Production Company: J+G Productions

Fonts: We will ask people about the name of the film in different fonts and what connotations this implies.

From this survey I can see that most people prefer the 6th and 7th font , these two have been narrowed down by me and Georgia and will now trial both on our film and see which looks better.

Connotation’s: “Currently the connotations I get from the logos include a horror theme with the 6th and 7th logo is simple yet effective” Quote Hannah Ginns 2014

“I really like the last one as it is simple as many other films with abductions have a very simple Arial font” Phoebe Piper 2014

“The 6th one is really nice as it has an effective capital letter at the beginning which makes it look individual” Georgia Murray 2014

“The 6th one has very effective capital letters which signifies a scary atmosphere, and stands out which makes it easier to read. The capital letters imply that there is something withheld in the film” Hannah Dunstan 2014

From these reviews and comments we have decided to use the 6th one and we like how the capital letters make it look different and fits in with our research into similar products as films like 'Taken' has a simple Arial font which fits in with our films synopsis and genre.

Main Task Production - Final Production Name (Edit: Not the final one)

Here is our final production name and logo, which we will use during the opening of our production, the effects are currently still being trialed to see which one works the best.

We have decided not to use the original antenna stop animation as we decided that both our not satisfactory enough for our opening and have decided to use a different name and different logo, Georgia use Photoshop to create the logo, and used her expertise with it to create something professional, I helped in the production phase, aided with the design and have made the effect 'Bad TV'. I really like how the 'Georgia and Jack productions' is phased out at the beginning and is then finally revealed at the end when the logo is clearly shown.

We decided to use 'Pineapple Incorporation' as we was inspired by the film '50 first dates', while still incorporating the name Jack + Georgia Productions.

Edit: We have seen that we spell incorporation wrong so have made a new one!

Main Task Planning - The three different Theories

Hey,
Here is my presentation on the three theories related to the world of media. The three people i focused on were:

  • Vladimir Propp
  • Roland Barthes
  • Tzvetan Todorov
I looked at their life briefly and then focused on their theories, on top of this, I looked at some real movie examples to compare to their theories but more of these can be found in my analysis of similar products.

Main Task planning - Analysis of similar Products 3

Hello :)
Here is our final film analysis and we have finished with the film 'Divergent' released in 2014. The opening scene has been analysed and we will talk about what happens, how good the editing is and use this to help make our opening scene.

Friday 14 November 2014

Main Task Planning - Draft of opening productuion company logo (Antenna - J+G Productions)

Here are the two drafts of our opening production company logo, these were made by our-self using stop frame animation and are only drafts at the moment. We wanted to achieve a 'hand-maid' feel with it then panning to an animated picture. These tests showed how handmaid looks and we could see what it would look like, sadly the first one has a random picture movement and doesn't look very good but does look handmaid and could be used as a wanted feature which we like. We decided to go with 'J + G Productions' as it would fit both our names and look professional. A final decision on what we will do will be made a little bit later :)

Main Task planning - StoryBoard

Here is our final storyboard for our production, Enjoy!

Main task planning - Peer assess and comments

Hello :)
Here is another group reviewing our blog and its posts over the past few weeks.

These reviews were made by other people in our class which took a look my blog and told me what I do well and what I could improve upon (Constructive feedback).
From their comments I have seen that I present my post in a very imaginative way with all different ways and not relying on the same program each time. They also say that my questionnaire analysis and questions I asked people were very good and I analysed them deeply.

To improve upon I will talk about the different theories in media, start to film and talk about the editing and shots we will use in our film.

Main Task Planning - Action plan of Term 2, Week 3

Here is my overview of what Me and Georgia aim to do this week for our Media production!
  • Analyse two more film openings for analysis
  • Finish story board
  • Start to film
  • Write about the tree different theories (Todorov's narrative theory, Propps character theory and Barthes codes of narratives) - Upload by week 4

Here for the first time is our thriller film synopsis, please bear in mind that it is currently being changed and edited daily and that the ending is removed for the obvious plot twists we want to hide :)

Main Task Planning - Problems associated with filming a thriller film

Happy Halloween!

Today I'm going to research the problems associated with filming a thriller film !
I have decided to see what could go wrong with the selected genre I picked and now I will see the resolutions to these problems and how to maintiain a thriller ambience in the film. If I don't maintain the thriller feel, my audience will begin to loose interest in the opening and turn it off.

The plot twist was expected and not a surprise
I will use a twist in a different way compared to other thriller film's, there will not an obvious give away throughout the film which will give away what will happen. I want the audience to speculate a completely different ending to what I give through the film, possibly with a cliff hanger and no resolution. If I make sure that a completely different ending is being portrayed throughout the film and then a dramatic twist which still relates at the end. I could also possibly have two twists one in the opening and then another one with the 'hero' of the film trying to clear his name.

The Music and sounds will be clearly effects and not match the realistic touch I want
I will make sure that sound effects for example 'someone screaming' will be portrayed from a real person and preferably the same actor so the voice matches throughout. The effects will not sound placed in deliberately but sound fluent throughout the film. This leads on to the effects sounding corny and cheesy as they are not suited for that genre and make it sound terrible. I will use research from other good thrillers which have had special effect sounds added and sound realistic and true to life.

The genre I want the film to be 'thriller' is not portrayed and the audience think its a different genre
I will make sure that my film follows all general thriller conventions, which are associated with a thriller film, I will make sure that the film is filmed with a dark atmosphere and not with happy music unless suited to the scene. I will also use the close up angle for most of the filming as it portrays the typical thriller with the characters feeling scared then the audience do too. There will also be a variety of quick cuts throughout the film, with dark shadows along with mirrors and a lot of mind play with the characters. I will also blog about the general conventions of a thriller film.

Thanks for reading :)

Main Task Planning - Our thriller production ideas

We are beginning to mind-map out thriller production with the ideas we are liking and beginning to think about, we will also use the questionnaire response to help decided some of the aspects we cant pick on our own.

Once we get all of our response's from the questionnaire we will add this to the mind map with the ideas we cant decided upon just yet

Main Task Planning - Questionnaire

Hello again,

Georgia and Myself have decided to do a thriller opening film and have decided to ask some general questions we have found from our research, we will then use these to create a well rounded film and make sure that it meets the conventions of a thriller film!

Here was our questionnaire :)

Thriller film research – Questionnaire

1.     The plot twist
2.     The action
3.     The suspense
4.     Resolution

Thanks!

Main Task Planning - Inital Ideas

For the first part of planning we are beginning to focusing on the initial thought and the idea of the film opening I would like to produce, we first of all looked at the appropriate genres from Adventure, horror, drama, crime and thriller. From looking at the ideas and thoughts we will then pick a genre for the opening scene and then begin to mind-map ideas of it and the stereotype conventions.

Introduction to Media - Edit decision list

Bonjour,

Here is my very last post about my introduction to media, it is going to tell everyone what clips we removed and what we edited.
So we started to edit our film on final cut pro X which was the first time we had every used this software, it was challenging at first but it was pretty simple once we started.
We filmed twice and the first time we had deleted and not incorporated into the final film as it didn't have the film we liked and the shots needed for the task.
So the second filming we removed the:
  • 1st shot - As it was a blank video with audio of Georgia saying 'Where's the picture?, oww the shutters on!'
  • 3rd Shot - As the tripod didn't move quick enough for me to pan the lecture theatre so completely cropped out the actors.
Other than than this we kept all the other shots and only edited them to make them to our taste

Thanks for reading my introduction blogs and that is it with the first part of my AS media studies.
Next week I will start my AS Coursework and begin to blog about our adventures then
Thanks  :)

Introduction to Media - Shot list

Hello guys,

Here is our shot its from are preliminary task, this will contain all the shots that we will include into our film:

  • Establishing shot
  • Wide shot
  • Panning
  • Close-up
Next time we would really like to include several more shots which will make the film much more entertaining and dramatic. We are also beginning to plan our final video and film now we are currently toying wight he idea of a thriller or Horror, so stay tuned :)

Introduction to Media - Media Law 'The 180 degree rule'

Hello once again :)

Here is some basic information on the very common, yet difficult to understand rule that exists in the media industry. The 180 degree rule is to be followed 98% of the time in filming conversations between two people. If you break it bad effects will be caused and the characters will be talking to each other in the same way. Here is the rule:

I hope this image is easy to read i basically shows that you should not film on either the right or the left side of the couple talking.

Here is another example of what it could look like breaking the rule:
As soon as you pass the 'line' you will make each character magically swap sides making the audience feel confused UNLESS, you use it intentionally for effect.

Hope this helps everyone thanks for reading :)

Introduction to Media - 'Story Board'

Hey guys :)

Me and Georgia have now made our story board for our preliminary task, it is our 2nd one after we first filmed the first story board but sadly it didn't turn out too good :/
So as they say 2nd time is the charm our new story board was filmed and I am very happy with the new film.

I have to thank Georgia for the drawings as i sadly can not draw for anything.

We have changed the setting and the original characters where myself and Georgia, so lucky i am now not in the film so we could focus on filming to make it meet the brief :')

See you soon, bye :)

Introduction to Media - 'Preliminary Task'

Welcome to my exciting new media blog which will cover my events during my A-level in Media Studies.

My first task which we will compare when I finish the course is the Prelim task, where me and my partner Georgia, have to create a film of a character opening a door (following the match on action camera shot) and then crossing the room, sitting down in a chair opposite the original character. Then finally some dialogue with shot-reverse-shot incorporated in it. Whilst following the 180 - degree rule, a very simple rule which has been media law for ages, not following it will result in a ridiculously bad video, with both characters facing the same way so they are not talking to each other..

Here was the video brief :

Preliminary exercise: Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

All video and audio material must be original, produced by the candidate(s), with the exception of music or audio effects from a copyright-free sources.

See you soon with a preview of our video (This is my first media film i have ever made)
Bye :)
