Introduction to Media - Edit decision list

Bonjour,

Here is my very last post about my introduction to media, it is going to tell everyone what clips we removed and what we edited.
So we started to edit our film on final cut pro X which was the first time we had every used this software, it was challenging at first but it was pretty simple once we started.
We filmed twice and the first time we had deleted and not incorporated into the final film as it didn't have the film we liked and the shots needed for the task.
So the second filming we removed the:
  • 1st shot - As it was a blank video with audio of Georgia saying 'Where's the picture?, oww the shutters on!'
  • 3rd Shot - As the tripod didn't move quick enough for me to pan the lecture theatre so completely cropped out the actors.
Other than than this we kept all the other shots and only edited them to make them to our taste

Thanks for reading my introduction blogs and that is it with the first part of my AS media studies.
Next week I will start my AS Coursework and begin to blog about our adventures then
Thanks  :)

Introduction to Media - Media Law 'The 180 degree rule'

Hello once again :)

Here is some basic information on the very common, yet difficult to understand rule that exists in the media industry. The 180 degree rule is to be followed 98% of the time in filming conversations between two people. If you break it bad effects will be caused and the characters will be talking to each other in the same way. Here is the rule:

I hope this image is easy to read i basically shows that you should not film on either the right or the left side of the couple talking.

Here is another example of what it could look like breaking the rule:
As soon as you pass the 'line' you will make each character magically swap sides making the audience feel confused UNLESS, you use it intentionally for effect.

Hope this helps everyone thanks for reading :)

Introduction to Media - 'Story Board'

Hey guys :)

Me and Georgia have now made our story board for our preliminary task, it is our 2nd one after we first filmed the first story board but sadly it didn't turn out too good :/
So as they say 2nd time is the charm our new story board was filmed and I am very happy with the new film.

I have to thank Georgia for the drawings as i sadly can not draw for anything.

We have changed the setting and the original characters where myself and Georgia, so lucky i am now not in the film so we could focus on filming to make it meet the brief :')

See you soon, bye :)

Introduction to Media - 'Preliminary Task'

Welcome to my exciting new media blog which will cover my events during my A-level in Media Studies.

My first task which we will compare when I finish the course is the Prelim task, where me and my partner Georgia, have to create a film of a character opening a door (following the match on action camera shot) and then crossing the room, sitting down in a chair opposite the original character. Then finally some dialogue with shot-reverse-shot incorporated in it. Whilst following the 180 - degree rule, a very simple rule which has been media law for ages, not following it will result in a ridiculously bad video, with both characters facing the same way so they are not talking to each other..

Here was the video brief :

Preliminary exercise: Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

All video and audio material must be original, produced by the candidate(s), with the exception of music or audio effects from a copyright-free sources.

See you soon with a preview of our video (This is my first media film i have ever made)
Bye :)
